I'm dying with this.

This is why you should absolutely reduce your reliance of apps and just do most if not all of your activities on a browser.
In all cases, the reason was simple: slaves were, and are, a source of enormous profits (see: Thomas Jefferson).
"Colonies" replaced slavery during the 19th century. Fortunes were built on the back of slaves and on the work of colonies later. Some of which were slavery by any other name (See: Belgium, Leopold II).
The truth is, we need to stop and re-assess what we, Europeans, have done. For centuries.

The original sin of Europeans was not extending freedom to slaves when they had the chance.
Athens invented democracy, but did not extend it to slaves or freed them.
Sparta was founded on the most brutal and ruthless form of slavery.
Many European kingdoms abolished slavery on their soil, but kept it alive in their colonies.
Spain banned slavery for Native Americans, but allowed it for Africans.
The US were founded on the idea of freedom... except for slaves of course. (1/x)
Personally I don't expect anything good from the GNU Project. From an outsider perspective the situation shows that the rot will not cease when Stallman leaves the project.
I only hope that the people that are currently doing this big effort in making GNU more inclusive don't burn out.
GNU is Not Unique, and much less the FSF. The Software Freedom Conservancy reacted promptly and assertively to Stallman's words last September.
Freedom is always a fork away.
I've been following the madness at the #GNU project since last September and it's quite awful. The effort by some GNU maintainers to make it inclusive, first with a joint statement and more recently with a collaborative social contract has been received with a lot of hate and spite by Stallman's lackeys to the point of turning list moderation into aggravation
Charles Stross on AI:
"As our widely-deployed neural processors get more powerful, the decisions they take will become harder and harder to question or oppose. And that's the real threat of AI — not killer robots, but "computer says no" without recourse to appeal."

- You hate people!
- But I love gatherings. Isn't it ironic?
